I have began purchasing instrument for my Skybolt. So Far I have bought a Falcon 2.25″ G-Meter. Two Kollsmans altimeters, one Navy 671CK-010, also a 671-BU-010, In addition a Kollsman airspeed indicator. Kollsman is like the ‘gold-standard’, when it comes to a quality instrumnet. Being that my airplane will be pulling +6/-4 G’s every flight, the quality needs to be good… I picked up both of the altimeters for less than a hundred dollars each. All the instruments will need to be sent out for overhaul.
The Falcon G-Meter is in great condition and will not need to be overhauled.
When looking for a harness, there are a few competitors in this area. I decided to go with the Hooker Harness for a few reason. The first is because I do not need to supply length when ordering. We are still customizing the cockpit so it would make things more difficult and I need to get the seat in place along with the harness to see how everything will fit.
Another reason is the IAC required dual lap belt. With the competitor, there is no ratchet system, and I believe it will be easier while flying to tighten myself in with a rachet available.
This is a custom order so it should be ready in a couple of weeks.
The new seat has arrived! As expected there is some modification that needs to be done. The front of the seat interferes with the seat. I am not sure which route to go, either modify the seat or the stick. The idea of modifying the stick was what came to mind first; not sure why but a bent yoke stick just looks cool.
Here is an example of a bent stick on Smizo’s airplane. Photo from biplaneforum.
